Using stolen Trade Federation access cods, the B'Dard Tone and the Jedi managed to get the entire task force onto the surface. Locating the Padawans through their presence in the Force, Tone, Kybo, and Ty led the miners in an assault on Grievous and his security droids. On their own, the Padawans made their own attempt at escape, and General Grievous followed them down into the depths of the complex and the caverns upon which it sat. Molten lava flowed under the rocky bridges that formed in the caverns and it was here that the Jedi finally confronted Grievous. B'Dard Tone and Flynn Kybo engaged Grievous in a cataclysmic lightsaber duel giving Codi Ty a chance to rush the Padawans to safety.

Above the molten lava, Tone and Kybo fought the outnumbered general. Unfortunately, Grievous' skill was too great for the Jedi to defeat. Jedi Master B'Dard Tone was cut in half after Grievous took his right arm for the second time. Flynn Kybo soon followed the Jedi having failed at stopping Grievous. The only positive outcome of the situation was the rescue of the Padawans returned safely to Coruscant by Codi Ty. The Jedi Council warned that if any defied their orders and pursued General Grievous, they would not be welcome in the Jedi Order. B'Dard Tone relieved them of this decision becoming one with the Force for what was ultimately a noble cause.
